During the second world war, many young Canadians answered the call to defend the freedoms we enjoy today. In the small rural town of Ryley, Alberta, my grandfather Arthur Anderson and many of his friends and relatives enlisted in the armed forces. While they travelled to Europe, my grandmother Julia Anderson united with the rest of the community to provide critical support for the war effort from home.
As a family member of a veteran, the Royal Canadian Legion provided me with a bursary for my education. The proceeds from this book will be donated to the Support Our Troops Fund for families of veterans to further their education. In this small way I hope to repay the kindness shown to me by the Legion as well as honor the sacrifices made by our veterans.

As a book about family, I hope you enjoy reading this book to your loved ones as much as I enjoyed writing it.
